SpecialKSZ :
sorry to hear about your gain. Some of these diets work for some people and some of them work against people. You may be one of those people that it just won't work for.

I have been on the atkins for 2 months and have lost 22 lbs.....how many carbs are you eating? I am trying to keep mine down. In the Book atkins says that some people have to keep the carbs all the way down. I am one of those. If I eat very many at all I only lose 1/2 to 1 lb a week. Maybe some sugar or flour or starchy veges are sneaking into your diet.

1/2 - 1 lb a week is all you should lose. Any more than that is fluid, which comes when your muscles break down.

I have tried almost everything. The last one I did was the Mayo Clinic Diet, didn't work. Give herbal products a try. There's a great site at www.trydietworks.com (http://www.trydietworks.com) . Give them a try, I have and they work! I don't diet, I just don't eat as much and I'm full of energy!!!lmesser@mindspring.com

I went on it also and did not loose any. But I found out I spill out Ketones when not even on the diet. I eat sugar and still pee ketones. I was told this is because I am hypoglycemic. How do you feel when you are on the diet, you may actually be hurting yourself. Talk to your doctor, there is probably a good reason why.

Atkin's seems a little unreasonable to me for a variety of reasons. I too am very sensitive to carbs. Have you tried Carbohydrate Addicts plan? I suggest CAD or CALP. Breakfast and lunch is restrictive, but dinner is a reward meal. Very easy to follow. Check out their site - Carbohydrateaddicts.com Good Luck

Well I too am sorry to hear that. What does not work, get rid of. I'm having to loose 90lbs to join the military and I am using the Atkins diet. I've been using it since April of this year and I've lost 40lbs so far. And like the other woman, I am a very hard looser so I had to go 0 carbs for a while. The only way I can loose on this diet is to keep my carbs at less than 20 and thats just how it is for me. You have to adjust to what your body needs. So I kept them at less than 20, I took a multivitamin (has nothing to do with the diet), and the dieter's advantage vitamin suppliments (to help your body use your fat for energy more effectively). I was also taking Ripped Fuel (I was taking this before the atkins diet though. It just gives your energy). I do eat some veggies but they have less than 5 carbs so like I said, I keep it less than 20. That seems to work. If you are loosing weight too fast you get dizzy as well and I had to increase my carbs then from 0 to less than 20 because I was dizzy all the time and loosing about 5 lbs a week. When I did that, I haven't been dizzy since. But like I said, If the diet doesn't work for you, try another. The book does talk about people who are metabolicaly resistant.

Also, eventhough some diets work wonders and for me the atkins diet has, it would not have been as effective if I had not been excersising. Before the diet I would work myself to death, working out on average 3-6 hours a day and only lost 10 lbs in 3 months. Then I started the diet and just did aerobics for 45min every other day,and toning for about an hour following a 3 mile jog on other days. I use Susan Poweter videos for aerobics (I know she is annoying but in my opinion, her video's have helped me best) And Tony little videos for toning (he's annoying too but very affective). I also don't beat myself up if I miss a day or so, I just keep plugging away at it, the same with the diet but I am determined. You will find something that works for you.

First off, Cardigan, my husband used Tony Little and lost 40 pounds in about 3 months also in conjuction with a balanced diet..but your right he's very annoying, but it works...I do think he's kinda cute too LOL ;)
Anyway, I was hoping someone could actually explain the Atkins diet to me, I am hearing so much about it but really am at a total loss as to what it is...am i living in a bubble or what ???? LOL

Thanks

I also gained with Adkins. After 2 weeks I gained 1 lb. I felt I followed the diet very carefully. I've gone back to counting calories until I find something else to try.

Gina,

I am on atkins and have lost 29lbs in the past 3 3/4 months. Remember the book said that a small % about 5% (I think) would not lose weight on this diet. Unfortunitly this isn't a one diet fits all world. But I am so glad I found this one, cause it is the only one that worked for me. I believe you will find yours.
