:( What is up with this post guys?

:o Not much talk about health and diet. I have big concerns!! I am nearing forty (38) and have a lot, (I means ALOT) of weight to lose. Do you guys just have a little to lose, or gain and lose it pretty easily? I've never been like that and have battled my weight most of my 38 years, (even having played football in HS and other sports.)

 Does anyone have any great advice? I have a desk job that keeps me pretty immobile for 8 to 12 hours a day. I take a night class each evening towards my Masters (having trouble fitting into those damn teenie bopper desks) and do homework on the weekends.

X-( What's a guy to do??? Any takers?

Welcome.. I get up 5 days a week and exercise before I do just about anything. That is helping me.

I also take the stairs and I also park a bit away from the door, so I have to walk.

I know where you're coming from Tenorboy. I work a desk job too, and seldom find myself working out that often.

I'm currently trying to find a sport that I can enjoy doing (that'll get me off my rather large rump :P). I'm gonna start golf lessons this spring, and possibly join a raquetball league.

I've personally found that trying to work out (just cardiovascular exercise) doesn't cut it for me. I find it to be a struggle to just work out, so finding a sport that I can enjoy seems to be the better choice for me. I hope it works.

 hey, I hope that does work out for you.

I tried that a while back, but quickly learned I couldn't keep up with everyone else. So, back to the drawing board. I figure I'll work on my figure, then figure some sport to get into later. Figure?

Walking mixed with light bursts of a sprint every other block seems to be working right now. We'll see for how long...

That's cool, I'm also trying to start lifting weights too. I've got a new weight set at home, now the only trick is to get the routine down.

I'm finding that the hardest part of lifting weights is starting them. You've got to figure out what the right weight is at first and setting up a whole routine with the right weights just takes forever. I guess I'll just have to jump in and do it. Maybe this weekend ...

Hope the jogging works for ya, this is the best time of year for that. :)

Its about 7:15am and in 15 minutes I will be on the treadmill and then lifting some weights for about 1/2hr. I do this 5 days a week. Its the only way I burn off enough calories.

I am a network admin, so I basically sit behind a desk all day too.

I think bodybuilding is a great sport to take up. Even at 38 you can make excellent progress. With some of my clients who are around your age, I've helped them put on a good 20 pounds of muscle and have helped bring their bodyfat% down to the single digits. It's a great lifestyle, but you need to eat properly, get enough rest, and train hard. With that combination, you can do wonders. I admit, I am also on steroids. While that may sound bad, it actually isn't. The media has blown it way out of proportion. Higher testosterone levels improve immune functioning, increase muscle mass, improve your mood, and really gives you a lot of self confidence. With all of the aids cases around these days, I think the medical community will find the use of steroids much more beneficial in the future and realize that they aren't that harmful when used sensibly and not abused, just like any other drug. But you may ask your doctor about testosterone replacement therapy. Your test levels begin to drop after the age of 25, and this means that your body can't support as much muscle weight. Since muscle is metabolically active, much more so than fat, when you lose it, your metabolism can slow drastically. If you are interested in finding out about how to persue this, email me and I can fill you in on some of the details. You may also consider the DNP, which can burn up to a pound of fat a day! It really is a miracle drug, but you won't find it on the market. Still, a healthy diet, regular exercise, and sufficient rest are key to a healthier body.
That's just my .02 cents. :)
