Hey, Just found you guys and there don't seem to be a lot of posts for us guys. I'm 5'4" 41 y/o and currently 135 lbs. I just simply want to be in shape. According to some guides, I should be about 128 lbs. So, I'm going to try for that. I also want to be a little more toned, not a muscle bound weight lifter, just in shape with no pot belly. I've recently downloaded a diet tracker for my pocket pc and keep a pretty good record of what I'm eating. That seems to be the best thing that's helped me. I also treadmill 5 days and weight lift two days, mostly upper body routines.

I guess what bothers me is I tend to judge myself on my belly. It's not flat and I want it to be. My waist is about 31". A lot of guys have that waist size that are 6 foot tall. I'm only 5'4"! Should I worry about loosing that first and then muscling up? Or should I keep trying to create muscle? Not sure. Anyone out there with some insight let me know. Thanks.

Welcome to diettalk.com. What diet tracker are you using? I haven't found a good one for my palm.

Terry, creating muscles will also help flatten your tummy. Some of the muscle work you should be doing would be for your abs...front crunches and lateral crunches will bring the sides of your waist in, and the front crunches will work your abs and give you that flat tummy..building up your shoulders will also make your waist look smaller in proportion. :peace:

I'm using the diet tracker from pocketdiettracker.com. I don't like everything about it, but it's great for keeping track of your diet and calories. The exercise data can't be customized. So, if I walk on a treadmill and burn 300 calories, I have to find something close that resembles that so that it can calculate it.
