I'm new to the site. 20 lbs to loose. Lost 60 in the past. Put on 20. Time to get serious again. Its difficult to find other males who post on this topic. I hope to find a different situation here.

Just doing the eat better, exersize more thing. It worked before. The problem is sticking with it. X-(

Welcome.... I've lost 40lbs with 10lbs to go.

What plan do you follow? and why are you finding it hard to stick too?

Trekbiker,

Welcome! This is a great place for information and support! I have lost about 70 pounds with about 50 to go. It can be a little tough to stick with a plan, can't it? I find that changing the way I think is a huge help. For example, I don't "diet" because that word often has negative connotations. Rather, I have a plan for healthy living (which includes a healthy, well-balanced, sensible diet). I stopped saying "I'm going to lose weight because I'm a fat slob", and started saying "I'm going to take care of myself because I'll feel better and I deserve that." I emphasize what I CAN have rather than what I SHOULDN'T have. I focus on the positive and give myself credit for every little victory. And, as corny and trite as it may sound, I take time to "smell the roses" along the way. That is, enjoy life.

Good luck to you. Hope to see you around.

Thats great Brad. How are you doing it?

I think it helps for people to share how they are losing. It may help others that are stuck.

John and trekbiker, simply put, I eat sensibly and get lots of exercise, water and fresh air. I eat about 1300 calories a day, maybe a little more, low fat. Mon, Wed, and Fri I do some type of cardiovascular exercise (aerobics, calensthnics, bicycling, walk/jog, trampoline, etc) with my heart rate in the aerobic/fat burning range for at least 45-60 mins. Tue, Thurs, and Sat I work with heavy weights, low reps. Sunday is my day off from exercising, but I keep at the rest of it. Again, lots of water, fresh air, good rest, positive attitude, recognition for every little success. I keep a journal of EVERYTHING I do, eat, feel, etc.
